Florida is one of the favorite states in the nation for plastic surgery. It is a state with a huge amount of cosmetic clinics and it is a significant trendsetter in terms of which procedures are likely to be set in motion over the next year or so. Hence, Tup Ingram has taken a look at which trends emerged in the state across 2017. These are telling, because they are likely to then be replicated in other states.
Tup Ingram on Florida’s 2017 Plastic Surgery Trends
For the rest of the nation, 2017 was all about the liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, nasal reshaping, and facelifts. Additionally, minimally invasive procedures were all about soft tissue fillers, Botox, laser hair removal, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. Those were all also the most popular procedures in Florida and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has considered a variety of new tools and techniques that would enhance the safety and effectiveness of these procedures.
However, in Florida itself, 2017 was a little bit different. Specifically, more people seem to care about the looks of their genitals, since labiaplasty became a very popular procedure. Between 2015 and 2016, there was a 39% increase in the number of women requesting this procedure, wanting to change the appearance of their labia minora. Similarly, there was an increase in the popularity of buttock enhancement surgery as well. This saw a 58% rise between 2014 and 2015 and a 26% rise the year thereafter. In this procedure, fat is removed from one part of the body and reinjected into the buttocks.
Of course, breast augmentation continues to be the most popular procedure of all. However, according to Tup Ingram, there has been a real change in terms of size. Suddenly, women no longer seem to think bigger is better. The look is now far more moderate and women seem to want to have breasts more proportionate to their bodies.
Additionally, Florida has seen a shift in attitude, with people becoming more interested in modifying their skin instead of removing it. Using fillers to plump up problem skin areas is now more popular than removing some of that skin. This is a positive development that is likely to lead to far less complications and a shorter recovery time.
Other trends that emerged in Florida last year and are now making their way across the country include:
- An increase in the use of fillers on specific areas of the face.
- An increase in the creation of dimples through a dimplectomy, whereby an incision is made within the cheek.
- An increase in Brazilian butt lifts, which has been had by Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Jennifer Lopez.
Plastic surgery seems to be getting more and more popular as time goes on. It is important, however, that people remember that plastic surgery may be elective, it is still a surgical procedure and therefore not without risks. Hence, people should do their homework and make sure their procedure is something they truly want and that it is performed by a properly registered surgeon.
