The charm of diamonds is fascinating in the eyes and hearts of women. It is like what everybody says “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. They can make really fine engagement rings and perfect gifts to the woman you really love. Its sparkle, its brilliance, and its beauty can even make guys feel like wearing one. Ironically, these alluring elements started as rocks. It must be mined and crafted in order to become a true beauty.
Diamonds are carbon.
Its paramount hardness and light diffusion components make it a wonderful industrial tool. The strength of diamonds is so extreme that grating it onto another form of element will surely leave a scratch. Because of this durability, diamonds retain their brilliance with some minor tweaking.
It is generally known that diamonds were first mined in India. Indians use these elements for decorating idols, symbolizing spirituality, divination, and holiness. History states that diamonds were traded throughout India for drilling and engraving, and even for artistic purposes like ceremonies and decorations.
The cutting of such elements was unlawful that time. The Indians proclaimed this taboo and it ended in the middle ages. A guild of diamond cutters and polishers were organized in the late 1300s. As the cumulative rise of technology emerged, diamond reshaping began to develop. This organization focused on the different shapes that will leave an increase on the diamonds charm. Nowadays, diamonds are widely used for jewelry.
Diamonds have four basic characteristics. These traits can be measured leading to the true value of these elements, better known as the four C’s- carat, cut, color, and clarity.
Carat:
This measures the mass of the diamond. 1 carat is approximately 0.007 ounce. The higher the carat weight, the bigger value it gets.
Clarity:
This measures the element’s internal flaws or inclusion (unusual particles in the interior of a diamond or shards causing a blurry effect). Further inclusions will lessen the diamonds value. It is usually graded from flawless leading to imperfect. And of course, the higher the clarity rating, the rarer and more expensive the diamond gets.
Cut:
The cut of the diamond is based from how the element has been polished and shaped from its original state. All the angles and level of skill are measured to this. Examples of different cuts are round, marquis, princess, and pear.
Color:
A perfect diamond is clear in color, which means it is chemically free and pure. However, this doesn’t necessarily affect its value. There are spectacular colored diamonds which are highly valuable. Experts use a rating system of D to Z (D=colorless: Z=bright yellow) to assess such marvelous diamonds.
What a marvelous gift from the depths of the earth a diamond is. Its uses are not limited only to artistry, but a tool for the industry as well. The brief history of diamonds clearly states that beauty is not appearance only, but passion as well. Diamonds can also be created in labs. This introduces more options for unique pieces, such as memorial diamonds. The four C’s of diamonds are definitely a great tool for determining the element’s authenticity and value. Use it not only to measure value, but to appreciate God’s little treasures.
